A World I Never Knew
03:16
|
|||
Coldly the North Wind bloweth with harsh and icy wrath
Autumn leaves have fallen and light is fading fast
The time has come for creatures small to lie down and rest
I will awake when summer's beam seeps into my nest
My long sleep is over and now I must awake
Into the world I'll venture as soon as morning breaks
But now I gaze in trembling fear: dark clouds shade the moon
Coldly the North Wind bloweth: alas, I woke too soon
Yet as I gaze in terror on this dark frozen world
Strangely a fearful wonder before my eyes unfurls
Dark and Frozen it may be, but great and wondrous too
Into this world I'll venture, a world I never knew

God moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform;
He plants his footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.
Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never failing skill;
He treasures up his bright designs,
And works His sovereign will.
Ye fearful saints fresh courage take,
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy, and shall break
In blessings on your head.
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust him for his grace;
Behind a frowning providence,
He hides a smiling face.
Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan his work in vain;
God is his own interpreter,
And he will make it plain.[4]

A Little Child Awakes
08:12
|
|||
Gently, gently
All around a brand new morning breaks
Gently, gently,
Without a sound, a little child awakes
Heavy-lashed eyelids lift the warm darkness of the night
Then swiftly close again against the dazzling morning light
Sounds of morning preparation meet the pillowed ears
Fist appear to brusquely rub away a sleep-earned tear
Then, wide-awake, he frees himself and sits up in his bed
And flattens down the wilderness that crowns his golden head
Musically he yawns and smiles and, blinking in the light,
Pads into the bathroom where he washes off the night
Bare feet curl in protest at the coldness of the floor
Hands pull down the towel that hangs so far up on the door
Morning-faced he lightly skips down the stairs
Glowing at the welcome that is waiting for him there
Each day is an adventure and he greets it joyfully
It is not important what the world wants him to be
He knows, someday, he will join the ones that keep him warm and fed
That confer about his future, so far above his head
For now, there are so many dreams that yearn to be released
They burst up to ecstatic fire and fade to inner peace
And every hallowed bed-time is a chance to wait a while
To look at life as it drifts past and watch it with a smile
Softly, softly
Watch him sleep and watch him once again
Softly, softly
Reach down deep and weep away the pain
Learn from this sleeping boy what the world cannot teach you
Know from his gentle joy what you now know to be true
Gently, gently
Despair gives in: the stone heart cracks then breaks
Gently, gently,
Deep within, a little child awakes
